The film 'Born Free' was based on the diary-like novel by Joy and George Adamson of their experiences raising lion cubs in Africa. Virginia McKenna and Bill Travers starred as the Adamson's in the movie and John Barry was hired as the films composer. Despite disagreeing with the films director about the style of music to be composed, Barry took his inspiration from the Walt Disney wildlife films of the 50's and 60's. The resulting composition won John Barry his first two Academy Awards for Best Song and Best Score. This video features the complete original motion picture soundtrack, including the beautiful theme song sung by Matt Monro. Also included are seven tracks from the re-recording of the Born Free soundtrack by Frederic Talgorn & The Royal Scottish National Orchestra* not included on the John Barry album.
